Hello everybody,

I want to make the contrary of each item we have ; normally, you create components ans then you create an assembly of these items.

But I would like to take out a component of an item, is that possible in Business Central?

Many thanks in advance for your help

Can you please provide the problem statement and also check if you can put -1 in the assembly BOM setup. May be that would solve your issue

    Thanks
    Ramesh

You need to use Assembly Order if you are referring to consumption of certain item to produce a finished product. Please refer to the design below

In Business Central, the standard process is to assemble items from components using the Assembly Orders or Production Orders. However, if you want to disassemble or take out a component from an assembled item, there’s no direct “disassembly” function in standard BC, but you can handle it using a workaround.
    Workaround: Disassembling an Assembled Item
    Using a Negative Assembly Order
You can create an Assembly Order with a negative quantity to simulate disassembly.
    🔹 Example:
Let’s say you have an assembled item called “Gift Pack” made of:
    • 1 x Bottle
    • 1 x Box
    • 1 x Label
Now, you want to remove the Bottle and return it to inventory.
    Steps:
    1. Go to Assembly Orders.
    2. Create a new order for “Gift Pack” with Quantity = -1.
    3. This will:
      • Reduce the inventory of the assembled item.
      • Return the components (Bottle, Box, Label) to inventory.
    4. If you only want to remove one component (e.g., Bottle), you can:
      • Create a custom Assembly BOM with just that component.
      • Post a negative Assembly Order for that BOM.
     Important Notes
    • This method affects Item Ledger Entries and Inventory Valuation.
    • It does not reverse the original assembly order but simulates a disassembly.
    • You may need to adjust costing manually if the valuation differs.

Note: This response was created in collaboration with Microsoft Copilot to ensure clarity and completeness. I hope it helps to some extent.

as what i can understand from your question, you can’t directly “disassemble” an item, but you can achieve it with the Assembly Order – Disassemble function. This lets you break down an assembled item back into its original components and return them to inventory.
