Application Server is too slow (Quick Send of AR Stmts)

We have application server setup and our first test of AR statements has 544 statements; it is taking over a minute for each statement.  We would like to be able to use this for up to 13,000 customers.  We don't want to process statements for a week.  The application server is currently residing on our backup application server (32G of RAM), the process is only using the first processor and a fraction of the available RAM).  Does anyone have any ideas on how to speed up the process?  We have selected to use the pdf format for the statements.

I have also found that changing the "Number of days of log data this Application Server will maintain before overwriting entries:" (Found in Application Server/Setup/<AS>, Properties/Management/Log Management). I believe by default the default is indefinite. Changing this to a 14 days dramatically increased our speed (from 4 minutes or greater to less than 30 seconds each).

Thank you.  Now we have added three application servers and have greatly increased the speed.

Our statements take between 40 - 70 sec each to generate.  We use multiple application servers to speed up the process.  If you set it to "ANY" for the application server make sure you get the priority set correctly (Low)so as not to interrupt other jobs that have to run on a timed schedule.  Or schedule groups of statements to run on particular application servers.

We use virtual Application servers with 2GB RAM and 2 cores.
