Editable grid ignores Business rule?

Posted on by 560

Hi, it looks like the Editable grid ignores active Business rules on our environment.

My case: on the Account entity we have a business rule: Once the relationtype is set to "Customer" the relationtype field is locked and can never be set to anything else. This works fine on all forms, in the web app, on the mobile app, the engagement hub etc.

But not in the Editable grid. Users can just choose another relationtype as if no business rule exists.

Does anyone has the same experience or maybe even a solution for this behaviour?

Kind regards,

Maurits

The response from Steve Harf at the bottom worked.

Using a different business rule function, Set Business Required, you can conditionally make a field on an editable grid either required or optional. The key to success is to make the field "Business Required" in the field definition on the entity, then use business rules with Entity level scope to turn off the business required attribute based on your conditions. Conclusion: editable grids will respect some business rules. Perhaps this will help in coming up with an approach to lock or unlock fields conditionally.

Hi, I have logged a case at Microsoft and a support team is working on it.

Two days ago I received an email about this issue being "a feature defect that will be fixed in next release"

I do experience the same in one of my application. Yet to find a solution.

I think you are right actually.. it does not make sense:) However, if you look at the progression of the business rules, it sort of still does:

    - There used to be business rules for forms (2013 version?)

    - Then business rules for the entities were created (which are, essentially, "server side" business rules combined with "all forms" business rules)

Then editable grids were born.. they are just new:)

Hello Alex, thanks for the prompt reply.

For me it does not make sense. When the scope is set to Entity, I would take that as a sort of top level rule that should be applied to every object below.

But I think you're right, this is not the way the Editable grid works (allthough the MS documentation states that the Editable grid respects the business rules).

Javascript could be the solution. Would be the first time for me and our environment, but there must be a first time for everything :)

    Kind regards,

    Maurits

    Hi,

that probably makes sense.. business rules can be configured in the scope of the form/all forms/entity. There is no scope for "editable grids".

You can prevents those changes from happening by adding a real-time workflow that would check some conditions and, the, would stop as "cancelled". Users will see a business process error in such cases, but it's better than nothing

Or.. You might add some javascript event handlers to the grid:
