Lot Matrix - Inventory Control

So i want to track the same base item ( a bottle of beer)  which is purchased at the case level and sold at case, 6pack, and bottle.  RMS informed me that for 3 levels i needed to use lot matrix.  Makes sense, since it is in effect similar to the case of pop example given in help.  however, when setup that way, the inventory shows no movement but a negative 1 on the particular item sold.  IE, case stands at 1 6 pack at -1 and bottles remain at 0.  in my head it should remove the case, pack 6 packs 3 and bottles should be 0 til a bottle is sold.  I was under the impression that this would alleviate the need for parent/child down three levels.

You will need to setup parent->child relationships between the case,6pack and singles.  You do this under the item properties on each individual item.
