Intercompany "Enter Corresponding Company ID"

I know that when the option to Enter Corresponding Company Id is selected that a new field is available in Payables and GL that allows for the Company to be selected. What I am trying to determine is when would I mark this feature and what are the benefits of using this feature? I do not see anything really different when I use this option so I am thinking I am missing something that might be beneficial. I want to use it if there are real benefits but not if there is really not a reason to do so.

thanks for your help!

Bryan

    Hi

You are referring to Intercompany Processing.  This functionality allows you to record a transaction in one company and also create a related entry in another company.

For example you have 2 companies and order some office supplies that both companies benefit from.

You would then enter the payables transaction in one company and mark the Intercompany box so that you can enter the transaction so that it will expense the transaction in both companies.

When you select the GL distribution for each company, the account lookup will be in that company.  The Intercompany processing module will automatically create the due to/due from entries.

    What you would enter:

    DR  Office expense Company 1

    DR Office Expense company 2

    CR  Accounts payable  company 1

The system will then take the above entry and make the intercompany transactions for you.

When you post the transaction in company one, a GL transaction will be made in company 2 that will need to be posted

    DR Office Expense

    CR Due to Company 1

you will need to setup the intercompany posting accounts by going to Tools > Setup > System > Intercompany and setting up the relationships.

Thank you for the response. I understand how Intercompany works my question is in regards to the checkbox on the Intercompany Setup window itself under the system setup. there is an option to Enter Corresponding Company ID checkbox at the bottom of the window. I really want to know what that option is used for exactly. Is it just for reporting? Does it add additional functionality? Etc...

I find that if you mark the box it causes issues.

I never mark the box and Intercompany works fine.

    Hello,

This checkmark was for earlier versions of Dynamics GP relating to Enterprise reporting and data integrations.  In the current builds there isn't a specific use for the setting so keeping it unmarked should not affect your intercompany processing in any manner.

    Best Regards,

    Jeff
