Inventory Shortages - Put Quantities On Hold and Share available Inventory over Sales Orders

Hello All

I am looking into Business Central as a possible replacement of our current ERP. I am having a hard time however to find a solution to our current way of working concerning inventory shortages and distributing the available quantity over our customers orders.

Example: Customer A B & C order Product A (1000,500 & 200 pcs). Only 1200 items are on stock (due to shortage or these 3 are unusually large orders) and reordering will take 6 weeks but we have another 500 on the way already. We also want to have some spare stock for other customers that might need Product A in then next few weeks.

If i create a warehouseshipment for these 3 orders and then a picking sheet then the first order will be assigned 1000 to pick and the second order would get 200.

What would be the best approach to mimic this business logic ? Currently all our orders are placed into backorder on creation and then quantities are assigned on creation of the picking sheets for that day where we can see the available stocks and dangerously low stocks are highlighted to show that picking that amount would cause issues.

How can we for example assign 300 from our current stock to Customer A and then assign 200 from the order thats already on its way and place a new order for 500 already assigned to him for later delivery. For customer B we could then assign 200 from current stock, 100 from the PO thats on the way and 200 on a new PO. For Customer C we could deliver 100 from current stock and 100 on a new PO.

Is there for example a way to put certain order lines partially in backorder in MRP as a possible action when it gives a warning ? Can you make PO and reserve that stock to multiple Sales Orders ?
Will those (partial) Sales Order Lines then go to backorder untill that PO is actually received ?

Thanks in Advance

    Hello

Would you be able to reserve?

As an example, regarding customer A with qty 1000: go back to sales order, add 2 lines instead of 1: 1 line qty 300, 1 line with qty 700. Regarding line qty 300, reserve

Do the same regarding customer B, 2 lines with qty 200 and 300 instead of 1 qty 500. Reserve the line with qty 200

    Etc etc

Do you see what I mean here? Could this be an acceptable workaround?

    Kind regards

    Jerome

    David,

You have a few options... You can implement Reservations and BC will reserve the Quantity against Inventory On-Hand or Purchase Order pending Receipt, or Transfer Order pending Receipt. This can be done automatically or manually the User can select the Reservation lines. You can always run the report  - Backorder Fill by Customer report to see Orders that are sitting not fulfilled.

You can see all this in the Cronus Sandbox play company.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve
