The model specified in project is binary (read only) model that does not contain source code

Hi. I am trying to create a new project under a new solution I created in visual studio and this error is appearing. While the solution gets created, the project does not.

I want to change the model but I can't find the option for it when creating the project, since the project itself does not get created.
Where can I specify which model the project will use before/while creating the project?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi Vijay,

Seems 'Report Mods UIC' is a binary model - which means its installed as deployable package.
You cannot edit the source code if its a deployable package (Binary). Also you cannot create project for the deployable package.
You can identify it is a deployable package if its in italic font.

    Thanks,
    Girish S.

Hi, While creating new project, we can not set the model. However, we can set the default model for new projects by changing a config file.

System is throwing correct error that binary models cannot be used in projects.

We can set the model after creating new project - It will be setup under project properties.
From my understanding you are trying to select deployable package (Binary model) under the model property in project properties.

    Thanks,

    Hi. Thanks for your replies.

I was just trying to create a new solution and project and it seems Report Mods UIC was the default model as Mohit mentioned. The project wasn't getting created because of this error and I don't remember setting up the default model actually, must have been by accident.

I was searching for the said config file but the path mentioned in the link was for 2015 Visual Studio while I am using Visual Studio 2017. I was able to locate the new path with the new name for the file, both paths are noted below for anyone's reference.

    Visual Studio 2015

    C:\Users\username\Documents\Visual Studio 2015\Settings\DefaultConfig.xml

    Visual Studio 2017 and Newer

    C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\Visual Studio Dynamics 365\DynamicsDevConfig.xml

Thank you both for your support and response!

    Hi Vijay,

On the step Select package, did you select the option to create a new package or selected an existing package?

When we create new model, we get a checkbox to setup that model as default for new projects. Probably that was enabled during creation. If issue is resolved please verify the answer else let us know if still any issue.

    Thanks,
    Mohit

Hi. It seems there's something wrong with the "Does, this answer your question?" question. It does not seem to update the thread as answered.

But I was able to solve the issue as I have mentioned and thanks a lot for the support!
