Email integration with Dynamics CRM Tablet app

Hi Experts,

I’m a newbie to CRM. So pardon me all the novice questions I would ask.

We are planning to deploy CRM Tablet app to our users. How would the user send e-mails from the tablet app?

Can we use E-mail router instead of Server side synchronization for this purpose? We don’t use Exchange server. We will be using POP/SMTP for email access.

Some background information…

This is a CRM 2013 On-premise implementation hosted by a service provider. IFD will be available.

Appreciate your inputs.

Thanks,

Joe

    Hi Joe,

"Can we use E-mail router instead of Server side synchronization for this purpose? We don’t use Exchange server. We will be using POP/SMTP for email access."

--> Yes, you can. Before the version of CRM 2013, CRM doesn't have Server Side sync. It used to only support Email Router and Outlook.

But, you can also use POP/SMTP in Server Side Sync setting, but as far as I know, need to have SSL-enabled port for your server (emails server pop/smtp URL) and implement https..

Setting the email router is actually not difficult, you just need to define the incoming and outgoing profiles and apply it to the users.

And don't forget in the system setting, email configuration, don't forget to use Email Router instead of using Server Side if you plan to use Email Router setting.

    Hope this helps!

    THanks.

    Hi Aileen,

I'm now confused. I was looking at the CRM IG. It says the following re Server Side Sync but doesnt say the same thing about E-Mail Router.

"Using server-side synchronization makes messaging data available to a web browser, tablet, or smartphone that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM."

Would you be able to fill me in with more information? I just want to make sure we implement a solution wherein the users are able to send emails from the CRM Tablet app.

    Regards,

    Joe

    Hi Joe,

Yes, I just read carefully the piece of paragraph you gave before.

As far as I know, they both have same functionality, just the server side sync is easier to manage since no separated server needed.

    www.qgate.co.uk/.../server-side-sync-in-microsoft-dynamics-crm-2013

I think, as long as the user can send email and can have internet connection (if not using CRM for outlook, because if use crm for outlook, the users need to open the CRM for outlook add-on first to send email), they can send the email, because the concept is every time user send email through workflow or by creating activity or sending the email directly, the email record will be created to the CRM Server and then the Server will proceed it, not the client.

Just remember that server side sync also supports Pop or SMTP and same as email router, it only supports email, cannot sync appointment, task, or contact if you use server side with Pop or SMTP setting, not the exchange settings.

    Thanks.
