Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Hello,
 
I have an issue when one of my customer tried to place an online order from our website. He was able to create an order but with an error. There was no items in the sales line of the order all information including appointment date are present and was not transferred from our website to our dynamics nav 2018 server
Error message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
 
is there a way to avoid this in the future? and can someone explain to me in laymans terms on how did this happen and how to tackle this issue? Thanks

    I get the impression that you have custom developments, you should address these issues with your developer. You surely need to debug and find the problem.
