You can create a new company as part of your current Dynamics GP installation without effecting your other companies. The only rule is that the account format of your new company must fall within the account framework of your system. You create a new company using Dynamics Utilities. Put the task on Create New Company and follow the wizard. After your new company is created, you can copy the defaults from an existing company if you want. It doesn't copy transactions, just the setups. You can also copy the chart of accounts and report options. The copy is accomplished using the PSTL tools.
To find out what your account framework is, you can check the SQL tables in the DYNAMICS database SY003001 will give you the total number of characters and total number of segments allowable and the SY00302 will give you the individual segment maximum lengths. For example, if my overall length in the SY003001 table were 66 characters and 10 segments, and my segment length in the SY00302 table were 6 characters per segment (they aren't necessarily the same per segment), the following account format would fall within the framework:
00-0000-000-0
The following would not because the second segment is larger than 6 characters:
00-0000000-000-0
Kind regards,
Leslie
Yes, run Dynamics GP Utilities. Each company is a physical database on SQL Server.
You can create as many companies as you need without affecting the other companies. Setting up the companies is the time consuming portion. I would check with your reseller to go through all the steps that requires.
