Possible to link CRM and Excel to use a specific CRM field?

Hello! I am fairly new to CRM (started learning it about 2 months ago), and I have a bit of a theoretical question. Is it possible to retrieve a field from CRM and use it in excel? For example, say I have an option set in CRM with several options and values. Can I take that option set and the respective values to populate in excel? So in one of the cells I would have a drop down list with the same values as in the CRM drop down list? Thanks in advanced for the help!

    Hi Saupton!

    Yes, this is possible out of box! You can export the data from CRM to Excel as a static worksheet, with that Option set column held in a view that you are exporting from CRM to Excel.

    You can even enable the excel sheet to be Dynamic, if you have the outlook add-in, which is really cool, as it will keep the records you export up-to-date with CRM, upon a click of a button!

    Hi Saupton,

    I'm realizing you may be asking for these values in a sort of data-mapping document, rather than getting the actual rows that have certain field values that exist in your system.

    If that's the case, and you need to see all possible values of a field in an Entity record, into an excel file, I'd suggest you take a look into a really solid tool held in the XrmToolBox (xrmtoolbox.codeplex.com) called the MetaData Document Generator.

    It will allow you to choose fields from an entity, and export their possible values to Excel. Very useful for creating Data Mapping documents.
