RE: How do I properly train clients when it's taken me so long to learn BC?
First of all i want to say that i think learning Business Central is a great choice if you want to work in the ERP industry.
It is also very good to hear that you have a very reflected view around how long time it takes to learn a software like Business Central. I have worked with the software for many many years but i still find new things to learn and new areas where i can refine my knowledge. So never think you know it all and stop learning new things - that is my most important advice.
When working with a customer you need to learn their business and focus on the areas of the system that they have the most use of or where they can have the best benefits of using Business Central. And it takes practice to understand your customers business and to learn how you should apply Business Central in the best way for different customers.
I also think it is smart to focus on specific areas of the application. Be very good in either finance, logistics, manufacturing or jobs and service.
Very few, if any, of the the Business Central consultants i have worked with or meet over the years have been able to excel in every part of the application.
These days there are also a lot of surrounding technologies that you need to have a good knowledge of in order to get the most out of Business Central. So for people who is starting new in the Business Central industry today i would highly recommend them to get good skill in Power Automate.
Another thing you should think of when it comes to train customers is that you should have regular training sessions with them also after they go live. As they get more an more experienced users they will be more and more open to learn new things about the product. And with monthly releases that we have now the product is evolving all the time and we as consultants needs to help our clients stay up to date with new functions and possibilities.
I would also recommend new consultants to find a mentor either within the organization you work or somewhere in the community. It is very valuable to have someone to discuss things that happens in an ERP implementation. Because one thing we can say for sure is that something is going to happen.
Welcome to to the world of BC!
