Colours in CRM2016

I have been looking around the CRM2016. I noticed in the customise entries / options there are colours can be set against option values.  How does that translate into the forms or views.

I have never used or changed the colours  so don't know the significance of that field or how to use it.

an anyone explain or expand on this
