Word Template Server vs Workstation

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I've successfully modified the SOP blank invoice template on a server using the word add-in, and including some calculated fields. When I print a sales invoice from the server, all fields show on the report as expected, including the two calculated fields.

However, when a user is printing this same template on their local workstation, the calculated fields will not print. I'm at a loss as to why this might be. Is there something that needs to be installed locally to allow these calculated fields to be used and printed on the report?

Mariano, I think you and Jeffrey are correct about the reports.dic. I will verify with the end user and mark your answers as correct if that is the case. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the idea Jeffrey, the client only has one report ID and I've made sure that it's set correctly on the workstation in question. However, I think you have led me down the correct path. I need to verify this, but I believe that the workstation that is having the issue is using a local version of the reports.dic. I did import the modified report originally, but I may have made the additional changes to the calculated field AFTER I imported it locally.

I'll make sure to report back if this is indeed the case. Thanks again!

Chances are, the workstation is not pointing to the Reports.dic dictionary file containing the calculated fields customizations. You have two choices: a) you either copy the Reports.dic dictionary file from the server to the data folder under the GP installation folder, or b) you modify the Reports.dic entry in the DYNAMICS.SET file to point to a shared location on your server containing the actual dictionary file with the customizations.

    Hi Jason

Have you tried logging in at the workstation with your credentials and see if you get the modified report printing?

If it does print for you, then I would say that you have multiple alternate modified forms and reports ID's.

Make sure that your user is attached to the alternate modified forms and report ID that has the SOP blank invoice and using the modified report.

If it doesn't print, are your workstations pointing to a shared version of the reports.dic file or is it a local copy?
