Catalog Items - Item Template No. Series Setup

Hello, MS Family.

Working with Catalog Items for the first time and understand that an Item Template must be created for a Catalog Item to be converted into a normal item. In my testing, I am seeing that the No. Series that I assigned in the Item Template is not being utilized once the Catalog Item is added to a Sales Order, this creating the new item.

The Item No. that populates in the Item List after the Catalog Item has been added to a Sales Order stays aligned to how the Catalog Item Setup is defined. Is there a way to utilize the No. Series that is assigned to the Item Template for the Catalog Item once the Catalog item as added to a Sales Order?

I have the same question (0)

    I understand it like this:

So if you want it to track a specific number series change the inventory setup so it uses a specific number series. There is a field for catalogue number series in that table

    Hello, Josh.

Yes, I currently have the Catalog Item Setup set to Vendor Item No., which will be used to as the initial identifier prior to making it an actual item.

For this catalog item, I've assigned an item template code that has a No. Series assigned to it.

When I create a Sales Order with the Catalog Item, the Vendor Item No. is listed on the newly created Item Card and not the No. Series that is assigned to the Item Template Code that is assigned to the Catalog Item. Is that how this is supposed to work or is there a setup that I am missing?

As the screen grabs identify catalogue items follow a different method to that of regular items and the usage of templates. If you require alternative behaviour I’d suggest a modification or change your setup. Perhaps the “Entry No.” option is more applicable because that uses a number series. This way your number is assigned at the point it’s a catalogue item and not when it becomes a true item
