CRM connection to SQL Reporting Services authentication method SNAFU

Hi All,

I have a problem installing MS CRM 2011 into my environment with SQL Server 2008 R2.  The CRM install requires the <RSWindowsNegotiate> method be available to it when accessing the report server.  The authentication methods are specified in the following location of the SQL server:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer\rsreportserver.config

I currently have an internet facing Report Server and we are enjoying the benefits of using <RSWindows Basic> as our EXCLUSIVE authentication method.  If another method is introduced alongside <RSWindows Basic>, these benefits are lost.  Does anyone have a CRM install alongside an internet facing report server?  I want to keep the benefits of <RSWindows Basic> but also need to get my CRM project going.  What are my options here?

I've posted this on the SQL forums to no avail, it seems they are disinterested as soon as I mention CRM.

I appreciate any input  you may have on this!  I'm totally stuck!!

Thanks!

    Hi James,

Does CRM need to use the same Report Server for any reason in particular? I don't suspect that there would be a supported way of bypassing the check for <RSWindowsNegotiate> during installation process.

    Thanks,

    Derek

    Hi Derek,

Well we only have 1 report server, so we don't really have any options otherwise.  I've actually opened a ticket with Microsoft and it's basically looking like we will have to cut over to the <RSWindowsNegotiate>/<RSWindowsNTLM> methods rather than <RSWindowsBasic>.  This will mean the SQL Report Manager users will be forced to append the domain manually to their usernames when signing in to the system.  Microsoft is going to get back to me on ensuring continued support for mobile phone browsers/ tablet browsers/ Safari browsers on the Report Manager, though I'm not too optimistic.

    I'll update the thread appropriately.

    thanks
