Hey all,
We are trying to pull in Google Analytics data (esp. UTMs, Click ID) into MS Dynamics and are looking for best practices and/or a connector do that.
Does anyone have a solution about how to add Google Analytics data (UTM campaign, medium, source) to incoming leads. Goal is to track campaigns when driving new leads.
Thanks!
Hi Sebastian9214,
If you're using D365 Marketing, have you added your website to the "Marketing Websites" under "Internet Marketing" and then added the JS code to your GTM? If so, then you should be seeing the visitor data on the "Insights" tab for that website record. If the visitor exists already in D365 they will be recognized. If they don't exist but they came to the site from a link that you sent through a tracked channel, such as a campaign using email or a marketing form, or a landing page or even a non-D365 form on your site that you added the JS form script to, they will also be recognized and have that information automatically tracked. Same is true for D365 portals of course. And Linkedin lead gen forms. If the visitor came to your site by any other method then D365 has no way to recognize them as there is no cookie or identifying referrer to get the data from. So, how would D365 be able to create a record for an anonymous visitor? I mean, it could create a record for "anonymous", but then every visitor that didn't already have a record would overwrite the previous visitor record under that same name.
Now, depending on how much value you believe you can really get from creating Lead/Contact records from anonymous visitors, I can imagine a solution that uses MS Clarity (more on that below)+ GA/GTM + Azure Stream Analytics that could be used to create "dummy" Lead records from the anonymous visitors. For example, each Lead record would get a unique ID for the 'name' field that could be whatever naming convention you would find meaningful such as datetime (down to say 2 decimal points precision on the seconds) plus some other attributes. And the combo of the 3 services would provide a significant amount of info that could be written to custom fields for those leads. Obviously still not going to give you their name so you would pretty much be limited to just retargeting them to try to get their identifying info with whatever hook you could come up with. But, you could very conceivably use all that gathered telemetry to feed into the journey designer and pretty seriously personalize the crap out of the retarget messaging!
Oh, and Azure Stream Analytics can also be piped straight to Power BI. Realtime.
Interestingly, MS has a roadmap item related to the above-mentioned moderately new, FREE. tool (that they haven't really publiciced a lot of information about) called MS Clarity (https://clarity.microsoft.com/).Clarity offers some interesting (albeit slightly creepy if you think too much about it) capabilities in terms of what info you can get about visitors to your site, such as session replays that GA/GTM don't offer. And, according to this roadmap item, MS is planning to do some form of OOTB connection between D365 and Clarity next year.
What is even more interesting (IMO) is that you can actually use Clarity inside of GA so you end up with BOTH data sets.No idea if MS is considering doing the reverse though.
So, it really boils down to how much value you think you can get and what you're willing to invest to realize that value.
Then moved this thread to Microsoft Dynamics Marketing forum.
Hi Ramune,
Thanks for your reply.
Our idea ist to push Google Adwords campaign data into Microsoft Dynamics Marketing and attach to the leads, so we understand where the leads came from e.g. I run a Google campaign selling software. John Doe clicks on the add and signs up on our website. The leads gets pushed to our sales rep and sells buyer our software for $1million. Now I want to know where John Doe came from (UTMs, Click ID).
I have seen only GAConnector doing that, but wondering if there is another solution.
Hi Sebastian,
is your question related to CRM, Marketing or Ecommerce stores?
Maybe this community would be useful if you did not see it yet:
