GP2010 / FRx and FRx SP9 Installation Error

Receiving the following error after installing FRx SP9:

Connection to FRxSys32.mdb was not successful.  Make sure you have permissions to modify files in the FRx SysData folder.

Environment:
GP7.5 in production with SQL 2000
GP2010 in Test with SQL 2008 (fully converted from our production 7.5 on a test system)
FRx 6.7.141 (yes it's still RTM and wasn't my responsibility until recently)
Windows client: XP SP3
SysData folder: Network share with modify permissions
IO_Data folder: Network share with modify permissions

Using FRx 6.7.141, I can connect to both the production (GP7.5) database and the test upgrade (GP2010) database and appears to work.  However it only seems to work on GP2010 when logging in as SA.  Any other login will not get past the login screen.

I've been told that to connect to GP2010 I will need to have the latest FRx service pack (11).  In order to get to SP11 I need to install SP9 first.  At the end of the SP9 installation I get the error message referenced above.

After clicking OK the that error message, if I try to open FRx I get the follwing error:

The specification set template file (FRxRpt32.TPL) is missing from the SysData directory. This file is needed to run FRx.

The problem with that is the file does exist in the shared SysData folder and no one else is logged into FRx during the SP installtion.

Since I am new to Great Plains and tasked with performing the upgrades necessary to get us from GP7.5 to GP2010 I would greatly appreciate any help anyone might be able to provide.  If you need more information I'll be more than happy to provide it.

Thank you,

Pat

I was indeed able to get it to work by using the FRx installation file that had SP9 included provide by the like from Mike.  All I will need to do in uninstall our current installation, install FRx with SP9 included and then install SP11.

Once again, here is the link:

    mbs2.microsoft.com/.../kbdisplay.aspx

Thank you Mike!! You made my day!

I just got the same error today.  Since I'm running Windows Vista and my Data folder (my own local copy) in the Program Files path, I ran again using Run As Administrator and FRX loaded.  Therefore, I'm sure it has to do with permission.  Our company Data folder is on a shared Windows 2003 folder with Read/Write for "Everyone".

    Hope this help.

You might also try installing the full FRx install that already includes SP9.  You can download it from here:  mbs2.microsoft.com/.../kbdisplay.aspx although right now the link is down.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Pat, are you still getting this error when you try to run FRx?

"The specification set template file (frxrpt32.tpl) is missing from the SysData directory. The file is needed to run FRx."

This error can be caused by a missing backslash at the end of the SysData path in FRx32.cfg file. To fix it, use Notepad to open the FRx32.cfg file, located in the root FRx folder, and add a backslash to the end of the SysData Directory path.

Re: GP2010 / FRx and FRx SP9 Installation Error

I do not believe this to be a permissions error.  At least in the permissions to access the files.  I have checked permissions on these folder and files and being the administrator of the machine I have full control of the folders and the files.

Additionally, I can install all the way up to SP8 without any problems.

Today I am going to try a default installation and see if I can get SP9 to install.  If that works then I'll switch the SysData folder to be our share and see if that will work.

    This is getting very frustrating.

Have you tried the Move Data Folder Wizard in the Admin menu yet?  In addition, try to put the SysData and I/O folders in the Public folder which already has default Read/Write permission and see if it works.

Penny, I did copy the shared folders locally and set it up to use the local shares, but still not working.

Since my last posting, I can get SP4, SP6 and SP8 to install without issue.  Just moments ago, I tried to go from SP8 to SP9 and received the exact same error.  :-(

However at least with SP8, my users can log into our test GP2010 database without issue.

If by local you mean the default installed SysData and IO_Data folders (not the shared copied local folders), I tried that yesterday and SP9 and SP11 appear to work which does make me wonder if the problem is something to do with the files in our shared folders (even copied locally).  I have also tried to compact the databases.

We are preparing to upgrade our GP from 7.5 to 11 (2010) this weekend and this is the last thing I need to test.  I hope I can figure it out soon.

Thank you for your continued help

    Pat

    Hi Pat,

What happens if you change the local install to point to the local sysdata and not the shared?

Does sp 9 install without error?

I just copied the SysData and IO_Data folders from the share to a local folder and tried again.  Same error is happening.
