What is the difference between Global Dimension 1 code and Short Cut Dimension 1 code in Navision 2018?

Hi Community,

May I know what is the difference between Global Dimension 1 code and Short Cut Dimension 1 code in Navision 2018?

What happens if you insert in Global Dimension 1 Code, but not in the short code?

I saw a thread over here, but It doesn't seems to be able to confirm.

Global dim 1 is a field on many records like customer, vendor, g/l account. The general ledger setup ensures those fields are captioned correctly and have the correct data if the dropdown is used. Shortcut dim 1 is used on journals and document line pages. This is similar in that it sets the caption and dropdown.

May I ask if you have a list of what Global Dimension 1 Code has and don't have, and a lit of what the short cut of Dimension 1 has and don't have?

Global dimension 1 will by default also be your shortcut dimension 1 so for all practical use there is no difference between them.

It's the same thing. It is just a NAV term. If it's on master, it will be called Global. If it's on journal and documents, it will be called Shortcut.

You should think it as Dimension 1, 2, 3, etc (without Global or Shortcut) because Global Dimension 1 or 2 will always be the same as Shortcut Dimension 1 or 2.

Hi, Shortcut Dimension 1 & 2 are same as Global Dimension 1 & 2.

Global Dimension 1 = Shortcut Dimension 1

Global Dimension 2 = Shortcut Dimension 2

Josh,

Good question. In short, Global 1 and Shortcut 1 are the same. Global 2 and Shortcut 2 are the same. You will see Global on Master records and when posting a journal and/or documents you will see it called Shortcut.

When you see Global 1, just think about your Dimension 1 you have defined on General Ledger Setup.

Only Global Dimensions 1 and 2 have related fields in master and transactional tables and therefore they're named as "Shortcut" Dimension fields. Dimensions from 3 to 8 can't be accessed directly from master and transactional tables, only from dimension tables related to master and transactional tables.
