Does anyone have experience with Sheet Metal inventory or something similar?

We have the inventory module, but we are not really using it.  For instance purchasing creates a PO buying inventory id SHEET then in the description they put 1008/1010 1.MM 48" by 120".

Then the sheet metal department has a series of spreadsheets to track the quantities.

We would like to use SL instead of Excel.  Looking for suggestions on a naming convention as we order steel with varying thickness and over sheet size.  Also what unit of measure for stocking and issues?  Add to this that we need create lots based on the heat number from the steel supplier.

Does anyone have any suggestions>

TIA,

Ayrin

Yes, we keep track of sheet metal in SL inventory. Our ID's are a number that shows the thickness and type of steel. We use SQ Inch as the unit of measure and use Unit Conversion to show how many SqIn are in a sheet. that way we order a sheet and it comes into the inventory as SqIn. As the sheets are cut by our plasma cutter, we issue the sq inches to the project. If you have more questions, please ask them and I will attempt to answer them.
