Form Read-only by default

Hi, i'm new to CRM 2016 and i'm wondering why a form goes directly in edit-mode when viewing a contact.

I would like to see it in read-only mode and have an edit-button when i want to edit the contact. Is this possible?

Best regards, Jos

    Rao,

thank you! I found this page before in my search. But then all fields are read-only, but i also want to make it easy to edit the contact if nessecary.

In this post i found an option for read-optimized forms where the user also has the option to choose for a mode for viewing forms: blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../read-optimized-forms

But this was in 2012, i cannot find it in the 2016-version.

FYI. even you can achieve this in form, but user still can edit using bulk edit, and import using excel and etc.  unless their security role does not allow your user to use bulk edit , import excel and etc.

by restricting user to use bulk edit, it could be painful. Please think twice before implement it.

Wei Jie, thanks for answering! A user is allowed to edit, but in our CRM, when a contact is selected, the view/form is opened, the default is EDIT on the first name, this increases the chance on errors in my view. So on default i would like to see it in READ-mode and edit when explicitly needed.

if you really want to implement this requirement,

first, you can do a JavaScript to be triggered during form on load event, using the above JavaScript to lock all the field.

Have you ever heard about ribbon work bench? if you know that, you can create a custom button in ribbon button, put in the unlock JavaScript code into the custom button.

you can refer to below article on how to create a button with JavaScript function enabled.
