Actually I have some errors in reports from a previous failed compilation and I really need to correct but the users can't stop thier operations.

I need to compile and then I need to run a CIL, what could happend if there are active users in Ax?

Is this a dev, test or prod environment?

You should not do that in prod environment.

If it's a dev/test, you can do it, it will just slow the system down. But the compilation should not fail because of someone being online in the system.

For prod deliveries you should anyway use modelstore delivery, which means you don't have to do x++ compile or CIL generation in Prod. Instead you do them in staging environment before exporting the modelstore.

Hi, from my experience a full CIL-compilation may lead to an unstable system, when other users are online while compiling.

    Kind regards,

    Heinz

Actually we are running in prod enviroment (I don't know how to use modelstore delivery) and we are in the middle of and very important comercial process and we can't stop and at the same time we have to correct an error in some reports. I know this is not the best practice but it's was an emergency.

    I will investigate about modelstore.

Thank you for you answer, you saved us.

Affortunatly we only were running the compilation and we can wait for the CIL when there will are no users. But I take your advice, thank you.

Remember to have only one AOS running when compiling, and especially during CIL generation. All AOS servers fetch the new (CIL) dll files from model database only during startup.

I still wonder, how did you not notice the compile errors during your last prod delivery? Did you just let users back into the system before your deployment was succesful?

Anyway, for longer term, please see this whitepaper. It contains info about the modelstore delivery: docs.microsoft.com/.../deploying-customizations-across-microsoft-dynamics-ax-2012-environments-white-paper
