Dear Microsoft Guys and Microsoft Community
Good day. We are using Microsoft Dynamics RMS and currently we have 30 Pharmacies connected on our server. Each day we have many transactions for all these stores connected to us in head office, around 200,000 transaction each day. We have purchase orders,item updates like price,cost,dept. and etc. We have also have returns and others. Our server NEC SI2520 cannot handle the synchronization for all these stores and we are planning to migrate the other 200 pharmacies to MS Dynamics RMS. I would like to request for an advice which type server or the recommended server for our business. Can you give us full specification like the brand of server, memory size, processor we need or appropriate to us. Hope to here your advice as soon as possible

Hi.
With that many stores, you should have a very substantial server(s) to manage the HQ Data (sql server). Really nothing else should be on a server with that large a responsibility.
You can have several machines that act as HQ server interfaces, the ones that talk to the clients. In my opinion they should be on the same location as the HQ Data server.
Each store location should have a sturdy machine that manages the local SO data, preferably a windows server. The HQ client can reside on these machines depending on the volume of the transactions.
I think the Microsoft gents might want to comment on this approach, but I have had good success with this type of setup.

Could you explain that to me little more detail?
SQL DB Computer <--> Server Computer so, use two different computers?
Then all the HQ Clients will connect to Server computer instead of DB computer?

We use Virtual Private Network to connect our branches so we can update anfd they can upload data via HQ Client. Our data server (Main Hedquarters Server) is in our office and the backend are located from each stores on our area? Is that what you asking?
For the connection process last time we set it by interbal and by batch, we have to VPNs station that accept their connection to our main server. On first trial we separate 46 branches to 2 groups with different time schedule. On our first 2-4 months it runs smoothly. Unfortunately after we relocated our Office to a new area. We suffer from our connection. Schedule has been disoriented. And I edited the schedule of each branch to connect at 0 minutes after the hours.

What do you mean VPN? The HQ server is not on site with the Data server(s)?
Also I do not work with AMD units, so I can't address that. But I will say that the HQ data server
better have lots of horsepower if you are going to serve 200 stores. Don't cut corners! Fixing errors is a lot more expensive than doing it right initially.
The hq server doesn't have to be that powerful, but you might need several if you are going to allow intervals long enough for the client run to finish. Do the math, 5 minute intervals for 200 clients.

Data Server is seperate from our HQ Server thru 2 units of VPN Lenovo Desktop. We are planning to buy AMD Opteron with four processor is this an ideal?

I have a lot experience with this.
The short answer is that the hq server should be separate from the data server.
Of course there is more to it than that.

We also plan to replace our server from HP Proliant ML150, because it loaded reports so slow, even the stores complain about not processing their worksheet consistently.
