Can Anyone explain why number sequence stuck in status list?

I think you should have set continuous = yes. Right？

Do not select the Continuous option if you must preallocate numbers for the number sequence.
Also visit below link for better understanding the concept of status list(it is for Dynamics 365 but will help you to solve your doubts).

Complement:
It is not recommended to use a continuous sequence of numbers, unless there is a regulatory requirement that you use continuous, use non-continuous for better performance.
You can use Alt+F9 to delete in status list form.
