GP Workflow Approval with outlook app on an iPhone gives the error "Safari cannot open the page because the server cannot be found"

Hello,

I have a customer using GP 2016 R2. We have setup web services for email approval. They can approve workflows from Outlook on their client, but if they try on their iPhone in the Outlook app, it gives them an error it cannot find the server. The iPhone is not connected to their network. Do you have any documentation on recommendations for setting up email approval over the internet (i.e. put web services in DMZ, etc.)?

Check the default browser on the iPhone setup - it might be set to Safari and should be set to Edge or Chrome.

    Let us know.

First, I wanted to mention this blog. It isn't exactly the issue you're seeing, but wanted to make you aware:

    community.dynamics.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-gp-workflow-2-0-email-links-being-removed-from-email-notifications-sent-to-approvers

That being said, when attempting to approve/reject workflows via email notifications, you're essentially using Web Services for Dynamics GP and the native endpoint URL, i.e. servername:48620/.../..........

By default, since it is an http:// URL, it is only accessible if the users are actually logged onto the domain/network that Web Services is installed onto, otherwise it won't work, giving errors like you're seeing.

We've seen some customers have users VPN into the network to take action on the workflows via email notifications, but if you want to setup Web Services to use https:// / SSL, so users can take action on workflows via email over the Internet, the only supported configuration we have is mentioned in this blog:

    community.dynamics.com/.../draft-web-services-steps-to-change-web-services-address-from-http-to-https-in-microsoft-dynamics-gp-2010-and-2013

    Thanks
