Import/Export Items List, short description.

Hi, we are trying to figure out if it is possible to export, then edit, then import our Items list (inventory).  Management is hoping to change the "short description" on all items to be a category header to make it easier to break down when creating reports.

In short, they want to have items listed as "valves & fittings"  "Spill containment" just as examples

We can go in and change each item one by one, but we were hoping for a solution that would allow us to change all of this info externally, and bring it back into great plains.

Thank you in advance.

    Hello Mark,

Yes it is possible.  Use SmartList to Export all Inventory in Excel-->Update require field and import it back using Integration Manager.  There are several product available to do import in Dynamics GP.

    Thanks much

Looking in Great Plains, the option for Integration Manager is "gray" and we are unable to click on it.  Is this something that will need to be purchased later ?  Is it also User Friendly ? As in, we would not corrupt or do anything to our database other than changing that specific field in all records ?

are there existing values in the short description??

you could use an update script in SQL

    Hello Mark,

Check Dynamics GP Macro with mail-merge  option.  You don't need to buy Integration Manger if it is one time cost.

Mark,   Recently we developed a solution for our customer to export Price list & items list to excel , then make changes, import back to GP automatically. I am sure this solution will address your needs,  If you are interested to learn please drop an email.
