FrontEnd and BackEnd on different server. Pros and Cons?

Hi CRM Forum Community,

For on-premise CRM 2015, I am debating whether to have CRM front-end and back-end server roles on separate server or on the same server.  The SQL server will be hosted on a separate server.

What is the recommended approach or best practice in terms of application reliability and performance? Any major pros/cons?

You can look at the set up guide (in the 2015 SDK) but, I believe the two server configuration is the recommended solution.  CRM aside, SQL Server is well known for not working well with others.
