Fields are locked on a Load once the Shipment is Confirmed

Posted on by 25

Good day

Our client is an exporter of product. Their shipments are confirmed, SO packing slips are posted, and sales orders are invoiced when the truck leaves their warehouse on its way to the port. When a shipment is confirmed key fields on the Load cannot be edited anymore in the system. Because of the nature of exporting businesses the following pieces of information on the Load can often change after a truck has left a warehouse.

  • Vessel name
  • Voyage number
  • ETA
  • Load arrival date and time

These fields are also locked by the system once a shipment is confirmed, users can therefore not update these fields with the latest information for accurate record keeping. How have other exporting business handled these scenarios?

I had the same scenario for a client.  We created a canvas app "log" that we linked into the loads screen.  It wasn't bad to create; we passed the load id to the app when launched from the load screen.  It was basically a grid that displayed the updated shipping information that they would enter as they received updates from the transport company.

    Hi

We have the same requirement and about to enable AWMS. Our consultants suggested we can print the pack slip but not to post it until we have all the final information. Would this solve your issue? I'm keen to find out!

Hello - speaking from a Microsoft perspective, this is probably the intended design of the system.  However, I can certainly understand how it does not meet your business requirements.  I would assume that this is something that you could customize to allow editing after confirming the shipment, if you need to.  But... consider reviewing the Ideas site (Ideas (dynamics.com) and submitting this as a topic.  And even further, if you would like, please feel free to submit a support ticket and we can investigate this with you in more detail.
