Excel 2016 15.41 returns HTML Import Error 'Unknown' when opening .xls file from CRM 4

Hi all,

I've posted this in the Excel 2016 forum, but they suggested I try here too. My OS is High Sierra with latest updates and Excel 2016 with latest updates:

When trying open an .xls file downloaded from Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4, I get the following:

Alert: The file format and extension of xxxxxx.xls do not match..... Do you want to open anyway?

I proceed with 'Yes' and get:

HTML Import Errors

Unknown

I proceed with 'Ok' and get

Alert: Unable to read file.

No problems with Mac Excel 2011, which I (stupidly) deleted.

I have tried double-click on file and 'open file' from within Excel. I have also tried Numbers and Sheets, but neither deal with the html 'envelope' - if that's the right term.

Help?

Hi Francesco,

This works for me! Luckily, I don't download xls files frequently.

I still would like to have a seamless solution - this should not be an issue at all with MS products...

try the following:

1) Upload your file here: http://www.zamzar.com/it/convert/xls-to-xlsx/ (or in any other file converter online)

2) Convert to xlsx

3) Try to open it

If I understand you correctly, I have already tried this with no change in outcome: Open Excel, click File Open, select file...

please try below :

open your excel program first from start.

from files , browse to your file downloaded from CRM

see if this works.

also did you try to open the same file in any other windows machine.
