CRM Copied Instance Region

Posted on by 1,795

Hi,

The Technet article: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn762325.aspx states that when an instance is copied, the new copied instance defaults to the source instance's region.

Two questions:

1. Can you copy an instance from one region to an instance in another region?

2. If you required an instance to be copied, but wish for the new instance with the copy applied to be housed in another region, is it possible to change this region from the Admin Center or does this require an MS engineer to switch the region?

Thanks David. That clears some things up.

For clarification, if you were to deploy a production instance in the USA and a Sandbox instance in the EU, you could not copy to the EU sandbox instance without first switching the region to USA? Or are you saying you could copy the instance but it would switch the region of the copy to USA?

I've not actually done this, but my understanding is:

    1. Not directly. The Copy mechanism will only create a copy in the same region
    2. You'd need to contact MS support for this. Once you have a multiregional tenant, you can use the Admin Centre to create CRM instances in different regions, but you need MS support to move or copy an instance between regions
