No one can log into GP - CKP file..

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I tried to restore production to test and it has been over an hour and users cannot log into GP. I logged in as SA and a Test id I had set up and i get the error message:

"A Get/Change operation on table SY_End_Routines_Check_MSTR (45)"

When I clicked on more information, I got a message that the production database was performing a restore.  there was also a CKP file created.  HELP!!

I was restoring the database over the weekend since no users were in...

Pamela, please address email to rwheeler@rbsolutions.com. If you were to click on anyone's name in these sessions you can get back to that person's profile and their contact information is there.

Yes, I couldn't figure out how to email you. How can I get that information?

Pamela, how did things work out for you today? Did IT get everything back up and running?

Well if you cannot log into the server it sounds like it has problems. Hopefully they can reboot it and have it come back. The question will be the state of the databases. I get emails on my cell phone so use that tomorrow for quicker results. If you email me yout telephone number tomorrow I will call as soon as I can.

P.S. I am going to grab a little dinner now and then will take a look at your IM file. Stay tuned.

Re: No one can log into GP - CKP file..

Thanks, Richard..We are Duke University employees and handle GL, A/P, A/R, payroll, etc. for the University and 1500 Physicians...34000 employees here. I have only been in my job 4 months but had 3 years previous GP experience. I am the GP Administrator and IT Analyst .(new position for Duke). I would love to  have your help but I cannot even log into the database server to stop and start SQL services.  I log in every day and have never had a problem. Duke IT will have to reboot the server but I don't feel good about the results. If you can think of anything I can do,  please let me know..

Re: No one can log into GP - CKP file..

Well you have the backups so you should be alright. You want to have backups of the DYNAMICS database plus all of your company databases. Is GP used for training purposes or actually used by the University? Is there any way to remote to remote to the server and stop and start SQL? It sounds like something went wrong with SQL during the restoration process. It may be better to just let this be for IT when they come in tomorrow. Just explain what has happened and they shoud be able to get you back on line. The database backups are there as well as the log backups. Hopefully your IT staff does not mind working with GP. I know several of our college clients want nothing to do with the support of GP. Please let me know how this works out. If you need more help at this point from me it would be best if I call you and then set up a remote session. I would be happy to donate an hour or so of my time just to make sure you are back up and running. You can click on my name above and see contact information.

ok..I am really scared now.. 1) The production database is hung, not test (UGG). Yes, the SQL service is running on this server.  I don't have access to physical server. I work for Duke University and Duke IT handles this. We do have a good backup. The automated backup occured last night at 8:00pm and then 2 logs backed up and none have occured since that time. Very thankful for you Richard but I hate to even go into the office tomorrow.

Re: No one can log into GP - CKP file..

OK, we have serious problem here and I am sure you do not need me to tell you this.

First, is the restore failure simply on the test company database?

Second, is the SQL Service runing on this server?

Third, if it is only on the test database, try rebooting this server if you can. You may then need to delete this database from SQL and then retore from backup.

I am hoping your server come back up with SQL running. Not being able to log into SQL as 'sa' when you know the password tells me SQL is not running.

Re: No one can log into GP - CKP file..

It is still restoring according to the error message I am getting. How do I stop the restore or kill it? I can't even log into the server -- says login failed.  We have several companies but the restore was done in our main production database and has been trying to restore since last night at 10:30pm. There have also been no log files backed up since last night due to the "hung" SQL restore.  Next backup is tonight at 8:00pm but I don't think it is going to happen..
