Automatically allocate employee self-service license

Hello,

We are implementing employee self-service portal and Dynamics 365 Online.  Employee records will be uploaded from payroll system through azure logic apps.  We have created a workflow in D365 to set the portal authentication, security stamp and External Identities record.  I was under the impression that a license will be automatically issued when the employee signs in to the portal if the O365 user does not have a license.  It doesn't seem to be working.  Do we have to allocate license through other mechanisms?  What are the options for automatically assigning the Employee Self-Service license in O365.

    Hello Hari, how did you go with setting up portal authentication, security stamp and external identities?

    When you say a license, the self service portal doesn't have a license per customer that I know, it is page views license on an organizational way.

    You are correct.  There is no license for customer portal.  My scenario was employee self-service portal which requires ESS license.

    You can use the registration and/or invitation process for customer portal.
