I am installing the trial Dynamics RMS for the first time to learn the product.
The installation is on a Windows 7 Pro SP1 32 bit virtual machine using Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 as the Hyper V host.
I do not know which version AND service pack of Sequel Express should be used.
Regardless of several attempts with different versions of Sequel Express, I am unable to connect to the test database in RMS.

I have the same question (0)Leonard,
You are given the option to install SQL2k5 during the RMS install. Win 7 will complain about it, but just run Windows Update until all updates are installed.
Otherwise, we only install SQL2k8 R2 anymore. We install the SQL first and then you need to install the SQL2k5 Backward Compatibility tools. Look for a post I made here 6-12 months ago for a step by step install guide.
Do not install SQL2k12 as it will not work with RMS.
After the installation of RMS, you need to conect to the SQL Server and then create a database for RMS to run. Run Store Operations (SO) Administrator | File | Connect | enter the SQL password you used when you did the install | OK | Database | Create | Give it a name like RMSSample | Next | look in the DBFiles folder for RMSSample.bck | Next and Finish. Now connect to the newly created database | File | Connect | password and change the name if you didn't use rmssample | OK | then File | Configuration | put the password and database name and test it. Done. Now open SO Manager and use 1 for the user name and Password for the password. Note the capital P is required. When you attempt to open SO POS, it will ask for the demo key on the inside of the package.
You should really try to get a Partner involved in your test otherwise it might not be a complete, happy experience. In addition, there have been 60ish hotfixes since the demo version was released
