Location tracking through photos

Hi All,

Is there any way to save location co-ordinates in photos taken with Field Service Mobile app? The photos are saved in the Notes section of the work order.

Expected End result - When the photo is opened in the Work Order later anytime, the location co-ordinates would be available with the photo.

I just ran a quick test, the photo capture in the app does NOT have geocoordinates. You might be able to capture the location using custom logic in the FS App. Might also be worth filing an idea at experience.dynamics.com/ideas to see if other customers have the same need.

Out of curiosity - what is the use case?

You could probably write some JavaScript on save of a Note related to a Work Order. Using MobileCRM.Platform.getLocation https://www.resco.net/javascript-bridge-reference/

Once Field Service Mobile moves to version 12 then you could use form rules instead of JavaScript

Again - would love to understand the use case. The mobile app is able to log geolocation based on different events, so storing the location with a photo *might* be an unnecessary workaround.

Alexander is right, you might just could pull the GPS data from the app.

However, if you do need the photo for whatever reason, you just need to read the EXIF data from the photo do get the coordinates.  This Stack Overflow link has the details on a tool for that, and a C# example: stackoverflow.com/.../how-to-get-the-exif-data-from-a-file-using-c-sharp

Its a business requirement and to verify the the technician have visited the site for the inspection. All our devices looks same, so this is mostly to avoid any kind of non-compliance, and make sure the technician visited the actual location
