    It says:

SQL Server 2008 R2, Standard Edition, Enterprise

    Edition, or Datacenter Edition.

    Service Pack 1

.aspx?id =26727) is supported, but it is not

required unless you are installing Reporting

    Services extensions.

    Service Pack 2

    ails.aspx?id=30437) is supported with

cumulative update 4 for AX 2012.

    (mbs2.microsoft.com/.../KB

    Display.a spx?scid=kb;EN-US;2765124)

    Service Pack 3

    is

    supported with:

    ï‚· AX 2012 R3

    ï‚· Cumulative update 7 for AX 2012 R2

    (mbs2.microsoft.com/Knowledgebas

    e/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;2885603)

    ï‚· Cumulative update 7 for AX 2012

    (mbs2.microsoft.com/Knowledgebas

    e/KBDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;2936810)

You won't find a line that states Ax2012R3Cu12. SP3 is supported since CU7, SP2 since CU4 and so on. You did not specify what SP you have, but anyway CU12 supports all versions of SQL 2008 R2.

Do you have an issue related to "CONCAT" function ? It could be breaking change introduced in CU12 because this function does not exist in SQL 2008...
