MRP - Manufacturing orders

Hello

I have a question regarding how MRP calculates suggested manufacturing orders during a regeneration in GP.

The scenario is as follows:

I have a component item in my finished goods' bill of materials which is, itself a BOM. This component has a default site which is also its issue from site on the finished goods' BOM. In this case, the quantity of the component item is split between 2 sites: e.g. site 1 has 100 on hand and is the issue from site and site 2 has 100 on hand.

if i combine the 2 sites quantities (summary) then i have enough component to meet my finished good forecast BUT, and please correct me if I’m wrong here, MRP is only looking at site 1 as that is the issue from site on the finished good BOM. As a result, MRP is suggesting that i manufacture another 100 of the component item to meet my forecast, when i actually do have enough stock in total.

My question is this; is there a setting that i can change/select to set MRP to check the items quantity across all sites, rather than only the issue from site quantity when regenerating? That way MRP would know that i have 200 in total and would not suggest an additional MO.

Thanks.

Simon

GP Mfg MRP nets out per site (makes suggestions only within 1 site and does not combine).    There is no setting and this is the way it has always worked.    If you go to the Workbench inquiry, there is an All Sites at the top of the window.    I have not had a chance to utilize this in the past few years as all my work has been with single site environments.    You may be able to come up with an SRS or Crystal report that would combine all sites.   Of if you have Smartlist Builder, there is an MRP view MRPV2130 that contains all the suggestions.   You could create the SLB object and then get to excel to sort by item, then site.

    Hi Dan

the customer has now changed their environment to a single site multiple bin setup, however when i re-generate MRP the forecast does not pull through on the workbench. I have set up the forecast to use the new site and i have changed all the BOM's to use the new site as well but, as i said, the workbench shows no forecast and also shows no suggested MO's or PO's.

do you have any suggestions as to what i may be doing wrong ?

also, when you say single site environments, does that mean that every single item is in 1 site and is then spilt into bins ?

You will also need to assign the items to the site.  You can go to Cards | Inventory | Site and click the Assign button to mass assign items to that site.

Additionally, you'll want to make sure you've selected an MRP related order policy for that item-site combination in the Item Resource Planning button.  Make sure you actually select an item-site combination and not the item-"All" combination.

There are a number of things that could affect this.    What version of GP?  There was a change in MRP in GP 10 where you need to enter info on the Item Resource Planning window on the specific site as opposed to the 'Initial values'..   Do you have the Item Resource Planning window filled in?   Is it set to be planned in MRP?   This setting would apply to any item (FG, SA, RM).   Have you checked the Exclusion window to make sure it is not in there?   Have you run the Low Level Code Utility?   I would start with this list.
