BC - Filtering bug

Hello,

See: Sorting, Searching, and Filtering Lists - Business Central | Microsoft Learn

man
or
Man
All records with fields that contain the text man, regardless of the case. For example, Manchester, manual, or Sportsman.

Scenario: Have a record with postcode '1705 RE'

Expected behaviour: filtering on 1705 would display result.

Actual behaviour in the BC-demo environment:

2023_2D00_02_2D00_13-10_5F00_14_5F00_54_2D00_Business-Central-_2D00_-View-_2D00_-Customers-_2D00_-Dynamics-365-Business-Central.png

it seems that only typing 1705 gets resolved as '1705'.

Now; this could be due to being a lookup. But I experience the same for the name field:

Nicely done and thanks for clarifying Zhu. That makes sense now. And yes, that is how BC/NAV has always worked. The simple search works as expected, but once you try to filter, then you must handle all the wildcards and capitalization yourself.

Thankfully BC does the simple search on all columns whereas NAV had that for only 1 column.

Hi, Greg, there is no problem with the Search function, I think what Wouter is questioning is the Filter function.

But I later rechecked the documentation and this part of the description is written in Search, so you are right, the documentation is fine.

    RE: BC - Filtering bug

I have BC20 on prem, and the search works exactly as documented. It converts my filtertext to @*filtertext* and then searches on all columns (like a user would expect in a modern UI).

So I disagree with ZHU--the new UI is NOT supposed to search like the old UI.

Wouter Dunnes  Have you tried searching on other list pages to see if the same thing happens there? (It's possible there is some custom code that is causing the filters on your page to not work correctly. If it is the same on all pages, then I also recommend posting the bug to MS--but it is not a bug in the documentation.

    Hi ZHU,

thanks for your answer. Yes, it is the same as in previous NAV, but I think in a modern user experience, the way it is written in the documentation is much more suitable for the end-user.

    RE: BC - Filtering bug

Hi, I have a feeling this is a problem with Microsoft's documentation.
It seems that the content of Search is copied to Filter. As far as I know, the behavior in Filter is the same as the previous NAV. If you want to search part of the value, you must add *.

If you have questions about the documentation, you can submit an issue below. This is anyone can submit.

    That works indeed.

Do you agree this is a bug? (since documentation states otherwise).

How can I best report this to Microsoft?

    My apologies if I misunderstood.

If you try to filter as you are have already done with @*1705* it will definitely work, Let me know if I correctly understand you, or may give me more example to dig out.

    Thanks

    Hello Nitin,

Please check the documentation I posted. 1705 should get resolved as @*1705*  , ada should get resolved as @*ada*

    Hi,

In the first screen shot you are not putting * after 1705, check please.

    Thanks.
