GP ODBC Connection

When installing GP 2010, I have the choice to go with the default ODBC connection or create my own.  Whenever I chose to create my own, it's not seen by GP.  Whenever I let GP create it, I can't see it in the DSN lists.  I'm assuming that it is somewhere within Dexterity.

The manual goes into detail about the naming convention of the default ODBC, but doesn't tell you anything about creating your own. My question is, how do I create my own ODBC and have GP recognize it?

Thanks

This is what I might try.  But I have not seen GP 2010 yet.

Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Data Sources.  Go to System DSN's (not sure if this makes a difference).  You shoudl see the similar ones that you see in your GP drop down list between the Local and System ones.

Create a new one,  SQL Native Client, fill out the information, I use SQL server Auth but uncheck the box to connect and get default settings.  I suppose you could enter the sa password here, but not a normal GP user as it won't work.  I always leave all the check boxes unchecked and Finish.

That's always worked for me.  Let me know how it goes.

If you are on a 64-bit machine there are two versions of the ODBC Data Source Administrator.  Their locations are described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942976

If you open the 32-bit obdcad32.exe (even the 64-bit exe has "32" in the name) you should be able to see the "Dynamics GP 2010" System DSN.  It looks like the 64-bit obdcad32.exe is what will be launched if you use any of the Windows Shell entries to launch it.
