MS CRM Development questions

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hey there! I wanted to look into development options for CRM 2013 and I have not had much look. The only real web app I have worked on  was a project already loaded inside of visual studios for me. I cant seem to find ANY books on ms crm 2013 development that goes over anything other than automating marketing. Where can a complete newbie like me start? I have a feeling some people will say tech net and I have been there. Personaly I dont like technet and I think it lacks explenations. I guess the best way to phrase this question would be I want to do some CRM development and I dont know where to being. Any help on finding usefull information, links or books would be awesome. I have found a lot of books on 2011 but I dont know how similar 2011 and 2013 are.

the CRM SDK is the first place to start but it can be quite technical and hard for users to get going

I would also start with the MB2-703 customization and config certification which will go through the various customizations which don't need code.

    this resource can help you

    crmbusiness.wordpress.com/mb2-703-crm-2013-customization-and-configuration-certification

Although I would recommend the MOC

There is also a certification called Extending CRM 2013, which goes through the code enhancments you can do

I would start learning Javascript for CRM 2013 from the beginning, this posts will help

    RE: MS CRM Development questions

The Dynamics CRM SDK is the best starting point, in my opinion: www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

It has a whole help file you can read through for details, and it has real-world samples you can load into a live system to get an idea of how everything works.  Get your hands on with the SDK's examples and you will have practical examples of how development works in Dynamics CRM.

If you want something more guided, look at this book: www.amazon.com/.../0672337037 It's not all development, but it provides context.

Lastly, look at Microsoft's recommendations for passing the MB2-701 Extending Dynamics CRM exam: www.microsoft.com/.../certification-exams.aspx  That has recommendations for classroom teaching and Microsoft's Academy.

The best place to start if you are a developer is downloading the sdk, check the CHM booklet that comes with that and the sample source code.

it may be a lot of stuff but to give you a guideline

start understanding What are CRM plugins and Custom workflows. Also, check the javascript framework
