Hi ,
Is it possible to show the sms message that was sent to the customers on the marketing list in their own individual activities pane. Using a plugin, workflow or solution

It is possible. You need to create custom activity entity called 'SMS' and using plugin you can send SMS.
You have to depend on third party to send SMS. Some addons are available.

If you want to show the SMS message in the each individual contact sent to, then yes it is as long as the SMS entity you create is an Activity entity.
By default will appear in the Activity Pane.
