Z-US$ vs. USD for Management Reporter

Hello:

Our US companies in GP use the Z-US$ currency ID for reporting in US Dollars, while our international companies use the USD currency ID for reporting in US Dollars.

In Management Reporter column definitions (within the "Currency Display" field), I have a column for Z-US$ and a separate column for USD.  Finally, I have a column that adds these two columns together.

I have this "theme" running throughout such column definitions, so that Management Reporter captures (for each company) the correct US currency ID and therefore the correct US currency amounts.

This is the only way that I know how to do this.  I believe that the figures are generating accurately, but it is taking a long time for the reports to generate--even with using "Financial" as the Detail Level.

First, am I correct in using this column calculation?  Secondly, is there a way to make the financials generate faster?

Thanks!

John

    Thanks, Sean!

    I'll check on the memory.

Someone set up our GP, before I came onboard.  For some reason, USD was set for the foreign entities while Z-US$ was set for the stateside entities.

I wish they were all set with either just Z-US$ or just USD.  Then, I would not have to add two columns together, where I have one column for Z-US$ and the other for USD.

By the way, this happens for a 13-month trended statement.  The tree allows you to select the entities.  When I choose the "Consolidated" branch, the report generates but takes about ten minutes.  If I choose one of the entities, I get a timeout error.  I'll have to change a setting to eliminate that timeout error.

If on the other hand I use a "Consolidated" column definition with each column pointing to an entity (domestic or international) by way of the tree's reporting unit, the report generates within a reasonable timeframe, if I remember correctly.

    Hi John -

Given you have entities reporting in two different US dollars Currency ID's, I don't see where you have a choice but to add those two columns together like you are in Management Reporter.  However, if all the entities are reporting in US Dollars, then why can't they all use the USD currency ID?

As far as the reports running faster, with Management Reporter, the bigger and more complex the report, the bigger the query, thus the more time it will take to render the results.   However, I would make sure you have enough memory on the SQL box and all but 2 gb is dedicated to SQL server.   How much memory do you have on the SQL box?

    Regards,

    Sean
