FRX on Windows 10 Version 1709, Build 16299.402

Trying to get FRX to install on a Windows 10 Version 1709, Build 16299.402 machine.  Was successful on a machine running an earlier version of Windows 10 but with the latest build, running into "the current version of the application could not be determined.  The setup will now terminate" error.

Found the following link where it would seem some users have had success in installing FRX on a newer version of Windows 10:

www.gpug.com/.../viewthread;MessageKey=2814d329-64f5-4b78-ac91-3ecf734a8a82&CommunityKey=4754a624-39c5-4458-8105-02b65a7e929e&tab=digestviewer

Wondering if someone else has had success or knows a way around the "the current version of the application could not be determined.  The setup will now terminate" error.

Thanks,

Michael.

If you were successful in installing FRX, what was your initial FRX Version/Build?

Try running the setup application in compatibility mode Windows XP - support.microsoft.com/.../windows-make-older-programs-compatible

RE: FRX on Windows 10 Version 1709, Build 16299.402

    Hi Mariano,

Have tried several combinations of Compatibility Mode (Windows 7, XP SP3, SP2, etc.) but none of them work.  Even rolled back the Windows 10 System to Build 371 putting it at the same Build/Version that Leslie Vail noted having success with on two other similar Windows 10 systems.  Also tried FRX 6.7 2002 release and 2005 (SP9) release using the various Compatibility Mode settings with the same issue.

Did other research that points to renaming the InstallShield related folders under Program Files\Common Files and Program Files (386).  Did find InstallShield folder under Program FIles (386), but the rename didn't work.  Even went as far as to temporarily remove the folder as well.

Lastly, ran machine in Safe Mode with Networking and attempted a Compatibility install but still get "The current version of the application could not be determined.  The setup will now terminate.".

As for the validity of the installation files, ran a quick install test on an ancient Windows XP VM development O/S and had no issues with the install, so the issue is definitely something to do with Window 10, possibly with the Build 402 (End of April Update).  Was able to roll it back, but wondering if something else got injected by the update that doesn't roll back and is preventing us from installing FRX.

Do you know of any prerequisites such as .NET 2.x that the older FRX application might be looking for in order to install?

      Any other ideas?

    TIA,

    Michael.

It's been a long time. However, I would try applying FRX 6.7 SP13. I think this build was a full install.

    Hi,

My full install of FRx and a few other things are available on my BOX site. Use this link to get to the FRx folder. I have some things in my BOX account here: app.box.com/.../k9xtt64mw0fa6i3v30zdqx7l8plbkxpv

So far I have been very lucky and have been able to get FRx to run in some otherwise unfriendly environments.

    Live the dream!

RE: FRX on Windows 10 Version 1709, Build 16299.402

    Hi Leslie

    Sorry for the late reply.

I managed to install FRx6.7 yesterday by using the very early CD July 2004, then followed by sp12 without problem for Windows 10 version1709, Build 16299.402.

I am able to run FRx6.7 report designer for the FW and FWC with no issue. Have not try running the live data. But believe it should be OK, as I didn’t encountered this error message "the current version of the application could not be determined.  The setup will now terminate" error.

Appreciate and thank you for your help.

    Hi SLC,

When you note "very early CD July 2004" are you running the installation using an actual CD that is labeled "July 2004"?  We've tried running FRX installs using different downloaded media with FRxSetup.exe dates of 09/04/2002 and 05/01/2007, but still no luck.  Guessing the 09/04/2002 is the original FRx 6.7 (no SP) and 05/01/2007 is Frx 6.7 w/SP9.

Have seen mention before of 2004 media that another user reported did the trick, so hoping to find out what release we are dealing with.

    Regards,

    Michael.

    Hi Leslie

The content within your BOX link does not appear to be complete - files seem missing - would you be able to repost the content?

RE: FRX on Windows 10 Version 1709, Build 16299.402

    Hi Michael

Sorry, my typo error CD is not July 2004 but June 2004.  I use this Original CD with the label “Microsoft Business Solutions for Analytics FRx6.7 for Great Plains” June 2004 to install FRx6.7.

Firstly, I installed the “Prerequisites requirement from the actual CD” then “Install FRx”.   I think the Prerequisite installed .NET 1.x, which the older GP and FRx need to run.   After the CD installation then I installed those service packs.

Hopefully, the above information will help you to install FRx6.7.

    Regards

    SLC
