We are into software development and we would want to create an item but would want to assign serial number and the license number manually.

How do we do this in BC

The only way to use item tracking (serial number tracking) is for inventory types of 'inventory'. Which means that you will be tracking quantities and cost.

On the Item Card, there is a field called Item Tracking Code. You can create Item Tracking Code with serial and assigned it to that item.

Adding to other replies... Go create the Item and make sure:

Type = Inventory

Lot Tracking Code = SerialNo

Serial No. = Serial

Here is an example:

If you are not going to use a Number Series but enter manually, make sure the Serial No. series has Manual checked.

Hi

Other experts provided guideline here. Since this should be an inventory item my question is how you want to add the item into inventory? For example, do you want to create PO and receive PO or through Item Journal or production order? When you have decided about that then you can easily add then SN manually based on other guidelines.
