question on Shipment Date on Posted Sales Shipment

Can someone help me understand how SHipment Date in the Sales Shipment HEader is updated during posting?  For some reason, even though we change the shipment date in the Shipment Tab of the Sales ORder.  When we post (after picking and posting from warehouse shipment line), the shipment date is not the same as that of the Sales ORder.  I.e, if shipment date is 11/19/14 in the shipping tab of Sales order.  Once posted from warehouse shipment line, in the posted sales shipment, the shipment date is different (e.g., 11/1/14). COuld this be driven by packing?

    check the shipping settings of the used customer. this influences the calculated shipment date. also the time (number of days), which is needed, for warehousing and picking. every step is combined with a couple of days. after all these steps are posted, the shipment date is calculated. result is (or can be) a different shipment date.

    Thanks Jonathan! Also, when I traced the code (ugh!), we can still override the shipment date from the Warehouse Shipment HEader (warehouse shipment line).  Much obliged!
