Overnight several of the .net patches were pushed out to workstations and now when solomon is run I get the following error. "Microsoft Dynamics SL has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
Looking in the event log or the details I see a .net Runtime 2.0 error, Event 5000. Description EventType clr20r3, P1 msdynamicssl.exe, P2 7.0.0.0, P3 4889f859, P4 solomon.kernel, P5 7.0.0.0, P6 4649b3d9,P7 1b4, P8 0, P9 system.accessviolationexception, P10 NIL
This is then followed by id 5001, Description "Bucket 300554837, bucket table 5, EventType clr20r3, P1 msdynamicssl.exe, P2 7.0.0.0, P3 4889f859, P4 solomon.kernel, P5 7.0.0.0, P6 4649b3d9,P7 1b4, P8 0, P9 system.accessviolationexception, P10 NIL
That's not a lot to go on I know, but I know nothing about troubleshooting Dynamics. I know that no patches have been applied to the server (and this was working fine last night). I ran a system restore of one of the client machines back to Sunday and even Saturday night to roll back the .net patches but this didn't make any difference.
Any other ideas?

Wow - I am stunned. I have got one client working! The one machine that had not been previously fiddled with had the patch copied to the c drive, installed as administrator and now I can get into the software. My version is now 7.01.30213.00 (7.0.0.0) on this machine.
The original machine that would not work had the .net frameworks removed completely (using Aaron's tool at http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8904493.aspx) , .net 2 and .net2sp1 installed, followed by this patch and everything is working well. Any residual issues with requirements for .netv1 or 3 will be dealt with later, but hopefully this patch will prevent the issue happening when v3 is installed.
My client is happy they can get on with some real work now ;-)
Thanks for all your help
Ruben, did you install the patch on the server AND the workstation or just the workstations?
What version shows up when you start the program on the splash? I have 7.01.2 - which i think is sp1 but I can't work out whether it is or not (although I'm 99% sure it is).
Hi All,
I had the exact same problem after a .NET 3.5 Sp1 installation on the server. Rolling back .NET does no good as something seems to have been irrevocably changed in the 2.0 framework. GOOD NEWS though, installing Service Pack 2 for Micorosoft Dynamics RESOLVED THIS ISSUE for me.
Good luck!
I'm pretty sure that sp1 was already installed on the machine. I'm actually doing the drastic step of removing all .net frameworks and reinstalling them as something is really borked on this machine now - Thanks for the help so far - I'll update shortly.
before installing the hotfix i beleive you have to install Sl 7.0 SP1
(you also need to install the sp1 on client machines)
then install the hotfix, that should do the trick. i just tested it and my SL is working again.
Well it turns out the client apparently has access to customersource. Anyway, trying to install the patch and the installation crashes out twice offering to send stuff to Microsoft...Now to debug *this* problem.
Nope - we're not Dynamics solution providers or whatever they call it - this is our only client that uses it (thankfully if this is the way it's supported!)
However I did call Microsoft's (free) hotfix request line on 888 456 5570, requested hotfix 961802 for Dynamics 7 and they sent it to me. Now I'm trying to get hold of the client to install it!
i just discovered today i have this same problem. Last week i updated my windows instalation up to date, so it would make a common ground that we have latest patches. any ideas on this?
