Default dimension values not being mapped to purchase requisitions

Hi all,

I am facing an issue where we have set of the vendor dimension as default in the vendor master and our expectation is to have that vendor dimension value mapped by default whenever we create purchase requisition.

But when we create purchase requisition, vendor dimension is not defaulted but when we create a purchase order with same vendor, we are able to see the vendor dimension mapped from the vendor master. Kindly suggest what would be the reason behind it.

Hi Naveena,

Thanks for your reply. I moved the question to the Dynamics 365 SCM forum.

The dimensions are defaulted from the vendor on the purchase requisitions lines, but also from the products. The dimensions set at the products have priority over the the vendor dimensions.

Hi Andre, thanks for your response. We are using procurement categories and not the products. Also I got an answer internally saying that for purchase requisitions we will be having different suppliers per line and that is the reason why dimensions mapped at master level is not moved to purchase requisitions. Is this reason a right one? or do we have any other reason behind not populating dimension values at PR?

Hi Naveena,

I just tested it and I got dimensions appended from several vendors on a single purchase requisition. Are there any dimensions defaulted from e.g. the requester position? Do you have customizations or an ISV solution installed that might change the standard behavior?

Hi Andre,

We dont have any customizations/ISV installed around this. The issue I'm facing is with the 'Vendor' dimension which is created with setting 'Use values from Vendor master', so whenever we create a new vendor, same dimension should be created under vendor dimension values. We map this dimension to the vendor master and upon creating a purchase requisition, I cannot see value mapped to the PR Line.

Hi Naveena,

Thanks. I misunderstood your scenario. It is not about just default dimensions, but you are using the Vendor account number as dimension value. To verify this, I would need to set up a similar scenario in my test environment. Can you confirm if the vendor dimension field on the vendor master has the correct value? Is it working for other dimensions or is this the only dimension with a default value?

Hi Andre, I confirm that vendor dimension field in the vendor master has correct value and it is the same behavior for rest all dimensions as in I have mapped dimension values for other dimension fields in the vendor still no dimension value mapped at vendor is being populated in the PR.

Hi Naveena,

I thought I replied already, but probably didn't hit the Post button. Weirdly, no dimensions are defaulted from the vendor. What value do you have in the field Requisition purpose? If it is not consumption, then the dimensions are not copied over.

In case you have shared your vendors using Master Data Sharing, then check if the dimensions are filled on all legal entities as the default dimension field is not part of the master sharing feature.
