I cannot run GP utilities

Hi everyone,

I have troubles running GP 2010 utilities after entering my User ID and Password. I did install it on another machine before about 2 months ago with the same DVD and ODBC configuration but it never gave any errors or troubles. However, today this one displays this error message: "There was a problem ascertaining product version information. Microsoft GP Dynamics will now exit. Please check the duinstall.log file for more information". When I followed the duinstall notepad path, it writes like this:

Failure encountered ON 4/12/2013 at 2:39:31 PM.  Error:  You are attempting to configure an older version of product 0.  Database 11.0.1307 Code 11.0.1247.
Failure encountered ON 4/12/2013 at 2:39:35 PM.  Error:  Product 0 does not support upgrading from version 11.0.1307..

Please if there's anybody that can assist me in solving this problem I will appreciate. Thanks.

This suggests that either (a) you have applied an update to GP and have not yet applied it to the new workstation, or (b) you installed or failed to install features on the new workstation that exist on other workstations.

Now that you have installed on the workstation, even though it is failing, you can do the following (this cannot be done if the install process was NOT run on the target workstation first!):

    1.   Rename the GP folder on the target workstation (the one that is failing)  Change if from GP2010 to GP2010_bad, for example.

    2.  Go to a workstation that is working correctly.  Make sure you have the same OS (32 bit vs 64 bit) and the same folder layout or you will need to edit the Dynamics.SET for the target machine.

    3.  Copy the GP directory and all sub-folders to a common place on the server or to an external drive.

    4.  Go back to the target workstation and copy the GP folder just saved to the proper place (with the correct folder names) on the target machine.

    5.  Run Utilities.  This generally fixes such problems.  If the problem is not fixed or you need to go back to your original install for any reason, you have the renamed folder.

    Hi Richard,

Thanks for the assistance, I learned that I did not install the 'Hotfixes' before I run utilities. so after installing the hotfixes it worked perfectly. Thanks again.
