Anyone else having issue with Word template not rendering € symbol?

We are on GP 2010 SP1.  I created both our POP and SOP by using the original GP report writer documents and modifying them.  We are heavy users of multi-currency.  When I tested, I tested a couple of the currencies on both SOP and POP and the symbol appeared correctly in Word.  We went live and the first Euro document is showing a small square instead of the € symbol.  I did not test the Euro (regret that now!).  I was concerned that somehow I had corrupted the report, so I tested the unmodified version and printed to the template.  Same issue.  We are using Word 2007 in an XP environment with our server on SQL 2008 R2.  I do not know if any of that information matters, but I would like to know if anyone else is having a problem rendering the Euro symbol on templates?

Oh, and if I print the SOP / POP documents (unmodified and modified) in standard instead of template, the Euro symbol appears fine, so the issue seems to be the rendering in Word only, but I know nothing about how to trace where the problem lies.

I can manually enter the Euro symbol on the Word document, but we don't want to waste our time having to do that for every Euro invoice.

I have reported this to our ISP, but also wanted to check the community to see if I'm the lone ranger.

Best regards,

Dale

    Hi Dale,

I work with a number of Multicurrency sites and I haven't come across this issue yet.

Have you tried rendering the report on another workstation?

Maybe re-install Word? (bit drastic I know, but it would rule out the install).

You could also try changing the font to something standard like Times New Roman for one of the currency fields and see if the Eyro symbol prints - It could be that the font you are using does not have the symbol rendered.

    Other than that....?

Thanks Ian.  We tried on 3 of 5 workstations and all did the same thing. One has Windows 7 with Office 2007 while the other two and mine have XP with Office 2007.  The Office suite was OEM, so I assume all three machines could not have the same issue as they were each purchased at different times, but I'm no where close to being a IT specialist to know.

I will modify the template to use Times New Roman and see what happens.

    Thanks,

    Dale

Our ISP just responded and stated this issue was identified with GP 2010 SP1 and was resolved in SP2.  So, we now need to consider upgrading again.  Ugh!  I guess an alternative could be to attempt to place words near the Total stating the amount represents Euros when the currency id is the Euro.

I did attempt to change the font on the template to Times New Roman and two others, but none changed the issue of a square appearing in the place of the € symbol.

    Best regards,

    Dale

    Hi Dale,

Thats good to know. I have customers on GP2010 SP1 and the Euro symbol prints so it must be an issue with a combination of word versions / OS etc.

The upgrade to SP 2 shouldn't be a big deal from a technical point of view, and the fact that you have recently upgraded to GP2010 means your data is clean. Of course, if you have multiple databases and users in different time zones, or add-on modules/developments - it might be a significant issue for you.

Best of luck wth it anyway.

    Ian.
