Fulfillment Quantity Exceeds Order Quantity

Has anyone run into a situation where they need to fulfill an order with a quantity greater than the ordered quantity?  It is industry standard in my client's industry to fulfill orders within 3% +/- of the order quantity.  The system will not allow you to enter a quantity fulfilled that exceeds the quantity ordered and this is causing us major difficulties.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to work around this without changing the quantity of the original order.

Thanks

Brad

    Brad,

This is common in a number of industries.  I believe you can change this on an Order type and Invoice type basis.  Go to Tools > Setup > Sales > Sales Order Processing, choose Order or Fulfillment Order/Invoice, find the type ID that you want to change this for and check the option to Override Billed Quantity with Quantity Fulfilled.  You might need to play with these options a bit to get the exact behavior that your client wants.

Victoria - thank you for your suggestion.  Unfortunately this still will not allow me to fulfill an order with a quantity that exceeds the order quantity.

    Brad,

Sorry about that - you are absolutely right, it's not allowing me to do that either.  I will look around to see if I can find any other options.  As a workaround, I would advise adding an additional line for the overage.  I personally would not want to touch the original ordered quantity just so that you have a clear record of exactly what the customer ordered.

Victoria - thanks again for trying to help!  I've suggested adding an additional line to the client but they were not very warm to that idea.  Unfortunately, it appears that this is the only logical workaround.

I really appreciate your responses.  Thanks!

    Brad,

If the objection is to the fact that the customer would see an extra line on the invoice, one other workaround may be to add the additional line in GP, but then customize their invoice report to not show it as an extra line.  I would imagine that would have to be done in Crystal or SRS.

Their objection is more related to granting the individuals who will be fulfilling the orders access to the sales transaction entry screen.  They do own field level security, so I'm going to do some research to determine our ability to lock that window down to only the fields they'll need to add a line item and fulfill the order.

They only way to do it is to change the order Qty.

I think one of our clients got Microsoft consulting to do a modification to get around this.
