    Hi Alan,

You're trying to create a 1:N relationship (one Account can have many X's)?

If so go to Settings>Customizations>Customize the System>Components>Entities>X > Forms, select the main form and double click to open it into edit mode.  Click on Add field, give the field a name e.g. Account and select type of Lookup (lookup to Account).  Then  once you've saved the new field it'll appear in the list of fields on the right hand side of the screen.  Click on the X form in the section where you want it to appear and then double-click on the Account field.  Once it's on the form you can use the arrow keys to move it around.  Save your changes and Publish All Customizations.

If you are wanting a N:N relationship between Acocunt and X you can go to the same Form edit view for X, click into the left hand navigation section (related records) and the form will give you the option of adding a N:N relationship.

    Hi Mscrmba,

Thanks for the help, Will this populate the drop-down for the related record type field  in the report wizard?

    Hi Alan,

Sure. As mscrmba pointed correctly, adding the N:N relationship populates in related record type.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    R.Rajkumar

Once the relationship is in place between the two records it should be available for selection for reporting.

Is the relationship already there but just not showing on the list?  If so - go to Settings>Customizations>Customize the System>Components>Entities>X>Fields and check that the Account lookup field is set to Searchable (rather than non-searchable).

Another consideration is security.  If you're not logged on as Systems Admin then does the person have the right to read the records of that type - you can check the permissions of their security role to make sure.

    Hi Mscrmba ,

Ok,  my Primary Record Type will be Activities, and Related Record Type will be Accounts.  I went to Settings>Customization>Customize the System>Components>Entities>Activity>1:N/N:1/N:N Relationships,

But  there is no option to create a  New 1-to- many Relationship etc., like there is in the Account/Opportunity entities. Could this be due to permission , I'm using the system admin account. The reason behind my silly questions is that I'm creating a weekly activity report per sales person using the report builder. The report has columns for Start Date, Account Name, Address, Activity Type, Duration, New or Existing, Regarding , Subject, Description. These fields are from Activity(Start Date, Duration, New or Existing, Regarding , Subject, Description) populate with data.  I have Account Name and Address pulling from Regarding(Accounts) , but they are blank, but when I use Regarding(Opportunity) for Account Name and Address , it populates with All Account names, and some Address , even though those account names have addresses.

Do you think what I'm asking about the related record type would solve this issue with populating account name and address in the report?

Just thought I'd give you more info ,on what I'm trying to do.

    Thanks,

    Hi Alan

Activities are a bit special, you can't create a direct relationship.  But the 'good news' is that the relationship you're needing already exists.

Try using the Activity Parties (Activity) field (rather than a Regarding field).

Activities are special particularly with the Regarding field.

    *  It may depend on what has been selected into the regarding field for each activity as to what can be reported on.

    *  If it has been populated with the name of the Account then it will show the associated data into your report, but if in the activity the Regarding field has been set e.g. to an Opportunity then the Account (Regarding) field will be blank for that Activity.

    *  When generating a report you may need to combine the data in a number of related records to get derived values.

    *  Activity Parties solves that issue for Contact, Accounts & Users.

    Hi ,

Great , I love good news , I will try that, what you are saying.

    Primary: Activities

    Related: Activity Parties (Activity)

    Add Column ;

    Record Type : Activity Parties.

Column: Should have  Account name , address and others??

    Thanks

    Hey,

I tried pulling under "Related to Activites"

    Record Type: Party(Account)

    Column: Account Name

    Record Type: Party(Account)

    Column: Address1

    Thanks
